Atabey - Naïve Art by YLR

Atabey, the Taíno mother goddess, crouches with her knees drawn up inside a large brown oval, her body traced in fine black outline. Her mask-like face sits beneath a headdress of round ear ornaments in violet, teal and grey, and a circle marks her belly. Rays of gold stream outward from the figure across a deep indigo ground flecked with glitter.

Naïve Art by YLR is the self-taught Dominican painter Yahaira Lidia Reyes Jimenez, who works in the naïve and folk art tradition with acrylics, gold leaf, metallic pigments and impasto, drawing on Afro-Caribbean and Taíno culture. Available as a poster or fine art canvas print in multiple sizes.
