Mosaic Nude in Violet - Art By Biba

A seated figure turned away from the viewer is built out of small square patches of colour against a solid black ground. Violet, plum, cornflower blue, mustard, brick red and cream tiles follow the line of the back, hip and raised knee, and the black is left to do the work of the shadow between them.

Acrylic on canvas, each patch set down as a separate flat mark. Biba Smith is a self-taught painter from London, now living in Hertfordshire, who works mainly in acrylic and takes much of her subject matter from the sky and space. Available as a poster or fine art canvas print in multiple sizes.
