Rural 1 - Dan Hobday

The first in the Rural series establishes the series’ quiet language: wide horizontal layers of pale grey and warm beige, the paint surface showing its workings through subtle variations in texture and tone. A narrow darker band near the horizon grounds the composition without anchoring it too firmly. This is landscape reduced to its simplest essentials — light, earth, sky — stripped of any descriptive detail.
