• What is in it: Zinc oxide at 15.25% forms a barrier over damaged skin, with benzyl alcohol, benzyl benzoate and benzyl cinnamate giving the antiseptic and mildly anaesthetic action - and the smell everyone recognises.
• What it is used for: Made for nappy rash, and still the standard British and Irish treatment. Also used on eczema, minor burns, surface wounds, sunburn and chilblains - and widely on spots, which it was never designed for.
