Five tulips stand against a cream ground: a pale blush bloom, a coral one, a deep burgundy one and a dusty rose one line up in a neat row, while a fifth in bright scarlet leans out sideways on a curving stem. Long olive-green leaves cross the stalks, and the lower half of the picture becomes a soft blue and cream checkerboard, painted with visible brush texture.
