Vanity - Kaiser

VANITY is painted in red capitals across a scratched black and gold border framing a pale grey gallery room. On its walls hang four portraits of Marilyn Monroe, among them the billowing-skirt pose from The Seven Year Itch in yellow against zebra stripes, and a version with magenta hair and electric-blue shading. In front of them a young woman with long braids, in a tight red dress with its collar pulled over her face, takes a mirror selfie.

Kaiser works in collage and pop art, with fragmentation, duality and social commentary as recurring themes. Black-and-white photographic cut-outs sit inside a painted frame, with colour added only to the dress, the portraits and the lettering.
