Worth the Wait - Nanna Paavig

A long queue winds down the pavement outside Krummen & Kernen, a green-fronted bakery set into a corner of orange and yellow townhouses. A hand-lettered pink sign promises the town's best fastelavnsboller, the Danish pastries that appear for a few weeks each winter, and the people waiting are bundled into coats, scarves and knitted hats - one with a small white dog, another carrying flowers. Above the deep red rooftops the sky is bright pink, with a pale sun and three birds.
